“From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety Psa 61:2

You skip breakfast. You’re late for work. You forgot to pack your child’s lunch.  The laundry basket is overflowing….you have family in the hospital —- your plate is full and your cabinets are empty.  To add to you “to-do-list” you have 14 texts and 3 calls to return….

You feel as if you are a lightning rod — everyone you’re your mother – to your boss – to you children need you NOW!!!!!  It would make you happy if the 2nd coming were today!!!!

So how do you feel…. inadequate – overwhelmed & guilty.

Swindoll has said 30 years ago – when we fell like this we want to run — run – and run faster….to run away from what is too overwhelming and unfixable.   When I fell like this my choice would be to walk for a hour around the neighborhood – whereas Annie would run to her closet with a hand full of dark chocolate and hide.

God would have us run into His arms at moments like these — to run to His Word which settles us and shelters us.  Obviously we cannot change all this STUFF which frustrates us – causes our anxiety – and the thought of being overwhelmed —- but whatever you and I feel is bigger than us – remains PUNY compared to the ROCK THAT IS HIGHER THAN I….

When I run to God’s Word, even just one verse, I find that God is my “refuge and strength, an ever-present help in of trouble” Psalm 46:1. At this point I realize my refuge doesn’t come from within but without — my strength comes from the Lord

If you feel the need to run away, lace up your running shoes, and go for it! Run into the strong arms of Jesus. He is Your strength. He is your Rock. He is your refuge.  Suddenly, you will find shelter – refuge – hope and peace as you become sheltered in the arms of God.

There will be a poster in our foyer this weekend promoting “forcolumbia.com”!!!  When I signed Discovery up for this one day to Serve The City – I went on a limb and said we could recruit a dozen workers…..Please prayerfully consider reserving April 29 – to serve the city.  In a couple weeks we will receive much more information – but it appears we will be serving in the Auburn Hills neighborhood —

Again we will be directed – led – and encouraged throughout our efforts.  Also we will be served lunch – and receive a tee-shirt to commemorate the day…

TOMORROW (Friday – 10th) – Kiki and the Marshall family have an appointment with a Doctor from Dublin, Ireland —- they will be going to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City….we have pray – we have prayed — we so hoped things would reverse themselves with information given in Ohio — we are not interceding for her PRAYING God will use this Doctor tomorrow to reverse the trend – and bring harmony between Kiki’s mind and digestive system…….Please Pray!!!!  Thank you…..

From the sounds of the weather report this AM – concerning what we can expect over the weekend – things are moving south very quickly…..If the weather is so threatening that it would put anyone at risk to get out on the streets – we will communicate via E-MAIL…..So please be looking for an email mid-Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning…………..Annie & I request prayer for Gregg as Common Ground moves into their weekend service.  A staff member has been released because of behavior unbecoming of a Christian much less a minister – and Gregg is preparing a sermon to bring healing and unity to the body…thank-you………….Our Saturday crowd has dwindled – multiple issues are responsible….if any Sunday worshippers would enjoy the Saturday service – I would so love to have you come…participate…worship…and be an encouragement to us…….it was good to see 4 guests with us last Saturday……………Whether the church size is 100 or 1,000 it still takes X-number of people to fill the slots so a smooth worshipful service and occur…..therefore, I want to take this spot to THANK everyone of you who serve Christ via Discovery that allows us to experience beautiful – triumphant worship of the Living Christ each time we are together……………

March 12- this Sunday evening will be our monthly Sunday Evening Prayer Gathering beginning at 5;00 PM……The church family is encouraged to come and pray – the church family can leave after 5 minutes – or 50 minutes – everyone is on their own.  Looking only at the BIBLE – there seems to be a power released from God when the church gathers to pray- that is not available when each member prays on their own.

I see it as a bon fire — when all the wood is in one place the fire produces great heat – than a small ember removed by itself….2 things occur – the little ember doesn’t give much heat or light – and the little ember goes own soon…..but the fire in its totality ignites – great light – great heat.  Dear God — may our prayers coming up to you from a contrite heart – produce such reaction in your heart – that you will hear from heaven – heal our land — and bring your Kingdom come to Northeast Columbia.

·      Peg Schroder – Peg prepares communion for Discovery each Saturday night – but over the past month she has been down in her back – and often is unable to attend church because she feels so sick — her back pain is so sever it makes her upset in her stomach…..Please pray for Peg

·      Kiki – going to Children’s Mercy Friday —– answers – help – resulting in healing

·      Mary Noble will have a test tomorrow – she will be walking in the  hospital for 6 minutes and then they will make a diagnosis – and move forward to.setting the date in which they will either repair or replace her aortic valve

·      Andy O’rourke – Joy’s son – dealing with some personal and emotional problems

·      At our Tuesday afternoon Prayer meeting – we are praying for 13 people who at one time attended Discovery regularly – but now are AWOL….Let’s never forget what the Holy Spirit inspired the writer of Hebrews to say Heb 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near

·      Prayer Warriors will desire to be together interceding for our community – lifting up our sick – and seeking the face of Jesus – as we touch the hem of His garment and become transformed into His image

This weekend at our Celebration Service – we will begin a new sermon series — we called it Being Disciples.  The subtitle to the series is this — you become like the one you follow…..We must always remember Jesus told us to “Go make Disciples”….he said nothing about filling buildings with people…..A disciple is a learner – a follower.  Please do not think that the terms Disciple and Christian are synonymous.   A disciple adheres completely to the teaching of another making them his rule of life and conduct.  Jesus followers were called disciples long before they were called Christians.  Here is the distinction.  In Luke 14:33 – Jesus said – Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple….. What is encouraging is that all of Jesus followers were able to make this commitment….

We begin the series with this thought – Being Disciples – Come and See…John 1:25-41….

John 1:35-41 The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. 36 As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” 37 When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus.

38 Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them.  They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.  40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. 41 Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”).
