Whether we go to Heather’s – Gregg’s or Champaign to a ballgame – I program the trip into m GPS…..When the kids come over Monday night for dinner and Group – I often consult the Food Network on how to prepare a certain dish.  So why wouldn’t it follow if I had a question about the should & should not in life I’d consult God’s Word the B I B L E!!!  As Christians – it behooves us to realize God has put us in a world of people – and we should think about what God has told us as we interact with those who seem indifferent to our God His Christ and the Church.  At the tail end of Matthew – Jesus gave us what we call the Great Commission — He gave this command about 33 AD… Matt. 28;19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”

How are people going to know what Christians look and act like if we don’t show them?  If we ignore – our push them away what image of Christ will they see?  Does God have a purpose and a plan for us to accomplish in the short 70-90 years He has granted us to live on the earth? I would say we could condense it in these words —- “be fruitful and multiply” and fill the earth — with the family of God.  Jesus amplified His Father’s instructions with these words…

·      Love your neighbor as yourself

·      Love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul and your mind.

·      Study to show yourself approved unto God.  Rightly dividing the Word of Truth

·      Go Make Disciples

These are our marching orders.  Even though this is the passion of Jesus for each of us – we ask as they did in the New Testament – who is my neighbor?  Surely, God doesn’t expect me to be friends with — you fill in the blank_________   _________.

Who is my neighbor?  Roget’s Thesaurus defines NEIGHBOR as a friend, acquaintance, intimate friend, faithful friend, teammate, — in simple language anyone you interact with.  Some might say – I don’t have time for these people – between my family – work – church – I have no time for ME!!!

God has given us the gift of mercy — grace— and life, eternal in Jesus. He orders our steps – H brngs people in and out of our lives…to whom we can demonstrate what Jesus followers look like and act like.    Scripture is clear:

Perhaps, sometimes our pride and arrogance have blinded us to the fact that we are all sinners–some lost, some saved–but all sinners. Paul tells us, Rom 10:13 “Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved… How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good things!”

One of the most familiar chapters of the Bible is 1 Cor 13.  Most refer to it as the LOVE chapter of the Bible……Our text this week will consider vss 8-13 – V8 begins saying Love will last forever….and v13 ends saying now there are 3 things that will endure – faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love.

In America we are restricted to our understanding of LOVE because we only have 1 word to represent our feeling or emotion toward our friends…our family… our job…coffee…etc.  The Greeks have 5 words for LOVE – ranging from Eros – to Feliteo – to Agape

What we see in these Greek words is that there is a love that is 100% inward – what is in it for me – and that is all I care about….that move to a love that is friendship – some call this the Barney syndrome – I love you – you love me – we are a great big happy family….the problem here is that when one quick loving the other – love ends in a big crash….but the greatest word for love is Agape – that speaks of a love that is all about the other person…it is the love of John 3:16 – it is the love that drove Christ to Calvary —  it is a love that is very rare…..but it is the love that is so needed by the church – John 13:34-35 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

This is the LOVE Christ wants Discovery to demonstrate to our community – as it was said in the early days of the church may it be said in these day – Oh, how they loved one another…..

Discovery Offering weeks of Feb 26 & March 5

·      General Fund       $5,452.01

From those I’ve spoken with whether D-Group members or others – this week has been terrible in trying to adjust to the time change – trust all the “kinks” will be gone by this weekend and we’ll have a wonderful time celebrating Jesus – as we study what it means to be His disciple – growing in Faith Hope and Love (1 Cor. 13)…………So encouraged this week at one of the groups I attend…..one member said they were leaving Sunday to celebrate their anniversary – but they plan to attend on Saturday so they won’t miss anything…..Love to see this become a pattern – when we are either unable to worship on Saturday – we hit the Sunday service and vise-versa….So glad to report that Kiki and family received some good news as they visited Children’s Mercy in Kansas City last Friday…..Not sure how this plays out – but this is the 1st good news they have heard — thanks for your prayers for her and the Doctor………..Sorry to report that Kay Baker has had a couple sit backs with her broken shoulder – and this past Monday the healing process started afresh…may our prayers be directed toward the complete healing of her shoulder………….This Sunday is Sign-Up Sunday for those who plan to help with ForColumbia – this is a program which is held once-a-year to Serve the City.  We will be working side by side with members of other churches – early on they told me we would be serving at Auburn Hills….The date is April 29, 2017 — I went on a limb and told the director we could have 10 sign up……

·      Encouraged by the dozen or so that come to the church to intercede for the sick – the lost – the discouraged — every time we have the Sunday evening Prayer Gathering —-Also encouraged by the 5 who gather each Tuesday afternoon to pray…..

·      Doug and Jackie are looking for part-time employment – a little prayer could be a big help here

·      Victoria and Dele have struggled recently with their health- regarding allergies and diabetes.

·      Mary Noble has completed all tests and yesterday set the date for her procedure to repair or replace her aortic valve.

·      2 Chronicles 7:14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

·      Peg Schroder has been struggling with sciatic nerve issues for 3 months.  During this time the pain has caused her to become ill….lose weight…and she is definitely considered.

·      God’s word reminds us on several occasions to pray for one another — that prayer can take many directions – but I’d like every one of us pray for someone we haven’t seen in worship lately.

Eph 4:31 – 32   Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.  Eph 5:1 — 2  Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
