Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.

At our Celebration Services last weekend – we closed the message with Paul’s famous words Eph 2:8-9 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  How do we marry the WORK of Heb 6:10 – with the Work of Eph 2:9?   All cults and some churches preach that we are saved by our works – and on the last day – God will stack up our good work as well as our bad works and if our good works outweigh our bad – we are saved.   False….lie…..unbiblical….from hell…..If we can be saved by good works – then for God to send Jesus Christ into our world and be treated like he was – then murdered on a cross would be the height of gross injustice ever and God would be the guilty one.

Salvation is the complete work of Jesus Christ – and by believing what Jesus did on the cross – and obeying the Gospel, God gives us salvation – which means He forgives our sins – He implants the Holy Spirit in our lives – and writes our names in the Lambs book of life.WORK that really counts is what we do after becoming a Christian.  True service occurs when we allow the Lord to work through us for His glory and honor. True ministry occurs when divine resources meet human need through loving channels.  Revelation 22:12 encourages us, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” Whether large or small, all service done in Jesus’ name will be blessed. Later in Jesus life he said even if you give a cup of cold water in my name it will no go unrewarded.

We must be careful, that everything we do is for the GLORY of Jesus and not just blowing our own horn.  If motives are self-serving, the only benefit we receive is the praise (if any) that we hear from people in this life. And we know that men’s approval is not satisfying or lasting.  While some rewards will be given in heaven, other blessings can be experienced now. For example, we know great joy when we allow God to bless others through us. And there is deep satisfaction in realizing that we are pleasing Christ. In addition, there’s a profound sense of fulfillment when we lead a person to Jesus and teach him how to walk by faith.

Serving others is both a great benefit and a responsibility for Christians. We should prayerfully consider our motives to make sure that our goal is to glorify Christ. Only then will we receive God’s full blessings–rewards given not only in eternity but on earth as well.

Sometimes we really struggle trying to remember something very important.  People have tied a piece of string on their finger to help them remember —- others write post-it-notes on the bathroom mirror…..As we age – we seem to develop good forgetters.

We seem to have no trouble remembering things in the sporting world – we also remember well things relative to our employment —– but please catch the 1st 2 words of our text this weekend Eph 2:11…..Don’t forget….do we tend to forget the greatness of the power and grace that saved you?  Discovery — remember a couple things….

·      There was a day we were without God and without Hope

I’m sure I speak for many of the adults at Discovery by saying that one of the events of our youth was Vacation Bible School. The church I was raised in conducted a 2 week school – from 9:00 – 11:30 AM…..Bible stories were taught — games played outdoors –all churches had their school the same week, so a huge a parade kicked off the school on the Saturday morning before VBS began on Monday. Parents of small children – please consider the teaching – enjoyment – friend making your child will experience as they participate in VBS this summer. Discovery will be partnering with Blue Ridge in this effort, if you’re interested in volunteering speak with Jackie or come to Blue Ridge each Wednesday night @ 6:30pm to take part in planning and prep meetings. Children wishing to attend VBS can pre register online at: https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/BlueRidgeChristian

My childhood church had fellowship times each month — before eating they would always sing this song:

The more we get together together together

The more we get together the happier we will be

For your friends are my friends and

My friends are your friends

The more we get together the happier we will be

Acts 2:37-38 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Last evening (Wednesday) – about 40 people gathered at Blue Ridge Church to witness 4 baptisms.  Those who were buried with Christ for the forgiveness of their sins were:

Ephesians 2:11-22
11 Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12 In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. 14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. 17 He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. 18 Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. 19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
