During the past 23 days of December, Discovery has been celebrating the season of Advent…. The Advent candles were lit at both the Saturday and Sunday morning Celebration Services…

Kiki and Solomon – lit the 1st Advent candles – the candle of PEACE….the next weekend – Morgan and Vern lit the candle of HOPE – last weekend Madison and Kaylee lit the candle of JOY – and  this weekend Kenny and Courtney/Shelby will light the candle of LOVE….. A casual reader of the Bible will understand JESUS embodied all these attributes   in His personal life – and it has been our privilege this month to hear readings of these traits – and seek to walk in the will of our Savior by living out Peace – Hope – Joy – and Love…..In my personal life – the statement this month that has ministered deeper to me than others is the thought about JOY – it is the steadfast assurance that God will never leave us….WOW!

Advent has been my favorite time of year.  Like all Christians, the Christmas season has brought a plethora of events/emotions that range from triumph- sadness – peace/joy….. In Matt 25, Jesus shares a parable regarding a man who gave one of his servants 5 bags of gold – another 2 and another 1 & then he left for a trip.  Upon his return he called the 3 to give an accounting of how they invested the gold!!!  The 1st two servants invested their gold & doubled their amount.   The final man buried his in the ground. His gold was taken away & he was thrown out where there is weeping & gnashing of teeth.

One commentator said the man who buried his treasure was at fault for not trying for FEAR of failure.  What talent, what gift has God given you that you have buried or hidden away instead of seeing how God can make it flourish? Even in you fail, that failure can plant a seed that continues to grow.

Many refer to December as the end of the year, looking forward to the hope that a new beginning in January brings.   Advent is truly the beginning of the spiritual year. Do not wait until the beginning of 2018 to take a chance on the blessings and talents God has placed on your life — start using them today and trust that if you try, God will multiply his reach through you and take your triumphs and failures and place an ever-living Joy in your heart.

Use this Advent season to seek the gifts God has placed on your life and use them to glorify and multiply God’s presence in your life and others.

I want to thank each of you who read the Advent Reading for December and lit the candles — trusting everyone is asking God how can they develop a deeper PEACE – a brighter HOPE – a warmer JOY – and a greater LOVE… thanks guys………….Last week we had a special prayer for Kiki regarding her surgery in Kansas City – for Ysabel – who now will see an oral surgeon regarding her wisdom teeth – and safety for the Steelman’s driving to Georgia….Discovery’s Core Team enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship and eating at Longhorn’s Steakhouse last Thursday evening…………….Great big thank-you to Jackie who has been working with our children’s ministry during December getting ready for their program the evening of Christmas Eve — please put that on your calendar – and be with us at 6:00 PM or a special Christmas Eve Service culminating with the Lord’s Supper and singing praise back to Jesus – Joy To The World……… Annie and I distributed some Christmas Baskets Tuesday to some widows of Discovery…..one basket went to Sister Mary Stricklett – she was baptized during the fall — she was quick to tell us that last Lord’s Day was her birthday – she was 87 and her son William took her out to feast on Fried Chicken…..what a great story – and joy to have both Mary and William as part of Discovery.

Discovery – thank you for your overwhelming generosity.   The Drages and the Jennings are grateful from the depth of our hears for the Christmas Bonus given to us at the Core Team Christmas Party last week.  We pray our service to Christ will demonstrate our love as well as our gratefulness to serve alongside of you as ministers.

It seems like DITTO is the message regarding the Blessing Box — at this time of year, we cannot keep it supplied…..this week we have filled it 3x’s and today it is empty…..thanks for you who are answering the call and bringing non-perishables to stock the Blessing Box….

May everyone of us pray that those who are taking food from the Blessing Box – develop a spiritual hunger and as much as they desire physical sustenance they will develop a spiritual hunger for the Bread of Life…..

Amidst all the shopping – goings and comings during the next few days – let’s NEVER forget whose Birthday it is……May the following passage minister to our spirits as we keep Christ in Christmas

Gal 4:4

But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman.

During December each of us have been challenged to give a year-end gift. It is the Season of Giving – I trust we will bless the bride of Christ with a gift springing from a joyful heart knowing For God So Loved He Gave – and because of that gift – our sins are forgiven and we have an eternal home in heaven awaiting us.

Luke 14:15-24 15 Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, “What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet[a] in the Kingdom of God!”

16 Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. 17 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ 18 But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ 19 Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’20 Another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

21 “The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ 22 After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ 23 So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. 24 For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’”
