Heb 2:11-12 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
It is part of human nature to love receiving gifts – but that love intensifies a thousand % during Christmas. This season because 2 our our children are 1,000 miles away – I have ordered many gifts from Amazon Prime and from phone calls and texts I know the excitement in my heart reign supreme in my son and daughter. Then comes the most wonderful day of the year when the family gathers around the tree. Someone reads the Christmas Story – and those precious gifts now wrapped in colorful paper await a loving touch. Hopefully everyone who opens a package is excited with the gift — and as it is put to use – or play – the gift offers more features than expected.
The same is definitely true with God, he is infinitely better than we anticipate. But, we still try to keep God in a “God Box” and think of him in terms of the nifty features he comes with. In reality he wants us to let him come bursting out of the box and show us how much more he is.
· God did this with the shepherds. He told them they would find a baby, who would save the world, wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a feed trough.
· That is thinking outside the box! More than likely, they had their own “God Box”, likely with the Savior being a military dictator-type. But, God burst that paradigm and displayed his abundant mercy and compassion.
· When He got out of “the box”, he showed them that He is a God who reaches out to those that no one else wants to. Shepherds weren’t considered the most moral. In fact, they didn’t often go to church because sheep needed to be constantly tended, and they couldn’t even testify in court. Yet, they were the first to hear the good news of the Savior’s birth. This was no accident!
As you read your Bible, don’t let your preconceived notions of who God is interpret what you read. Instead, let scripture and the Holy Spirit guide you in the characteristics of God. Let God break out of his box in your life today and show you who He really is. Remember, His thoughts and ways are not ours (Isaiah 55:8).
Think today of the “box” you may have put God in….and then, set Him free!
The church was called to PRAYER – last Sunday evening at 5:00 PM….as announced the past couple weeks – the prayer meeting has been moved from Friday – to the 1st Sunday of the month. 14 brothers and sisters attended the meeting and for that I praise God. My though it this – why wouldn’t a Christian want to join with other Christians – as their prayers and praise mingle together going up as a sweet savor to the throne of God? As 2016 arrives – I will believe that this 1st Sunday of the month prayer gathering will be the most attended service of the week – and as result – God will positively respond to our prayer….praise…groaning’s – and we are looking at the best year of our existence….

It is that time of year again…..Matt 22:21 “Well, then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” Those final 6 words are the most difficult for some Christians to comprehend…..”Give to God what belongs to God!!!” Most considerate Christians have no issue giving the waitress 10 – 15% tip for service rendered. Yet, when I think of the service rendered by JESUS upon the Cross – my sins forgiven – a clear conscience – a prayer answering God – and a mansion in heaving awaiting me upon my death – my giving to God should exceed a TIP…..As 2015 draws to a close – please consider the above verse…..please consider Jesus’ words “it is more blessed to give than to receive”…please consider the needs of Kingdom Growth…and please pray what you might do to honor your Savior with a year-end gift…….Thanks!!!
Prepare Him Room has been the overarching theme for our Christmas Series — under that we have looked at subtitles – Be Humble – (Mary) – Be Present (Joseph) and this weekend our word is Be Ready. The Text is Matt 25 and we will look at 10 virgins attending a wedding banquet. 5 were wise – 5 were foolish….It will not be our task to allegorize the passage –nor to read into it what might make good preaching. We will look with what we have and make corresponding application….yet the overall message to the body of Christ is Be Ready……
Tonight will be Hickman’s wind Ensemble Concert with choir and orchestra…..Kiki Marshall plays flute in the Band……………Rock Bridge’s winter concert was last Monday night – Madison Duff played trombone in the band……………..What was your thoughts when you heard Wednesday evening that over 100 cell phones had been bought in mid-Missouri?……………We rejoice with M/M Shelby Baker – they found out this week they will be having a baby boy in April…..our prayer with the family is that he will grow to be a Godly man and sake the kingdom of Satan…………….Kent’s joy is hard to contain once he learned his Cowboys will be playing in the Sugar Bowl on New Years Day….Scripture tells us to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep…..we do rejoice with Kent – but who will weep with the Mizzou and Illini fans?????……………..Today is a bittersweet day for me. On this day in 1978 my mother met Jesus…..she had been ill, but neither dad nor I though she was that close to death. On that day, I lost my prayer partner – my mentor – and best friend. She had congestive heart failure due to a childhood disease and suffered terribly – I rejoice our God took her and spared her misery – I cry because of the void left in my heart….She was the greatest influence in my life. After 10 years into ministry, she told me at birth she dedicated me to God like Hannah did Samuel….My prayer is that my entire life will be lived to make her proud and that he prayer was answered from beginning to end. I love you mom!!!……………

Isaiah 9:1-7 Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. 2 The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness,[c] a light will shine. 3 You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder. 4 For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian. 5 The boots of the warrior and the uniforms bloodstained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire. 6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor,[d] Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
