If you remember, the attacks in 2001 left our country asking lots of healthy, deep questions about suffering, sin, and our need for a Savior. Today, many of those doors re-opened. As Christians, we need to seize this opportunity to re-examine our grip on those answers, and ultimately, share Light with others.
Charles Stanley said on the 1st anniversary of 9/11 “Safety in this world is an illusion. Sadly, the peace and blessing we have experienced in America has led to much complacency and self-dependence. Sometimes we need to be shaken out of our forgetfulness and into reliance upon Jesus Christ.” Pastor Greg Laurie responds “On September 11, 2001, God allowed in the life of a nation what He so often allows in the lives of individuals: tragedy. I wish I could tell you that tragedy only strikes in the life of the godless, but we know the godly also suffer. Why does God allow tragedy?”
Todd Beamer was on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania. He and a group realized they were going to die, and within seconds, realized their deaths should mean something. This was United Flight 93…. consider they saved our nation’s Capitol. As they quickly tried to overtake the terrorists they cried out Let’s Roll. Lisa was asked to speak for the 2011 graduation class at Wheaton College, where she and her husband Todd met as students. These are some of her remarks…. “A decade ago I was plucked from obscurity to become a temporary public figure,” she said, but she told the graduates: “Don’t be dismayed to find your lives turn ordinary soon enough.” She told them to yearn for lasting significance—not the kind associated with headlines or Google hits, “but the kind that brings individuals to the person of Christ and teaches them to operate according to the values of His kingdom.”
“Ask yourself who is becoming whole again on your watch, what is being healed through your influence, how is God redeeming His creation through your life? Your good answers are surely the mark of significance, even in an ordinary life.” And will define a generation of redeemers. I couldn’t think of a better challenge for Discovery to consider on this Day of Remembrance than Lisa Beamer’s words…..

I am sad that many of our people were not present last weekend to worship with us as we laid the foundation of the Book of Daniel. Please read Daniel 1 to get brought up to speed. This weekend we will unpack all of Chapter 2. These 49 verses unfold in a simple narrative as King Nebuchadnezzar has a repeated dream that disturbs his sleep night after night. His request of his wise men is a request no one could answer – he asks 2 things – 1) tell me my dream, and 2) tell me its interpretation. If no one comes to my aid, I’ll tear all of you limb from limb!!!
Who in Babylonian could answer these 2 questions? What is the dream? What does the dream mean? What did Daniel & friends do upon hearing they would be killed? How do you handle a crisis? Where are WE today in light of this dream? What encouragement can we take from Daniel 2 Where is God in chapter 2, how is He working behind the scenes? God’s word is powerful – God’s word is true – God’s word will challenge and encourage us as we live victoriously in the day of tragedy and crisis. Looking forward to meeting you around the Lord’s Table, and in the Lord’s Word.

Last Friday evening was our 1st Prayer Gathering Event. Everyone present was encouraged – emails were appreciated as to how God moved in your life, and encouraged us to continue with this prayer outreach. We are so indebted to Ross and Doug for their leadership in this event. Personally, I will say that is the quickest 2 hours I ever spent. What a joy and privilege to bask in the presence of Jesus – to bow before Him, to intercede for the church, for others, and the Kingdom at large. You were lifted before the THRONE last Friday night. Our next Friday evening Prayer Gathering will be 7:00 PM – on Oct 3.

You are familiar with the ole 80/20 rule…It is OUR church ——- and for our church to be most effective she needs everyone’s input – service – talent –and support.
1. We have a “home communion” kit so we can take the Lord’s Supper to shut-in’s and those in the hospital. (this would be a Sunday afternoon thing)
2. The Lord’s Supper Meditation on (Saturday evening) is another opportunity to serve. 3 minutes or less is sufficient. This could be share by both men/women- or youth
3. Preparation of the emblems in both Saturday/Sunday service….you would need to arrive 30 minutes ahead of service time to complete this
4. Communion Servers at both services

Doug has spent many hours building our new website. It is still discoverhim.com.
If you have EMAIL – we would like you to subscribe to E-News from the website. On the right side of the front page you will a box which says (subscribe to weekly e-news) – just put your email address in the box assigned and you will have subscribed at that point. Thanks — for the next 3 weeks we will continue to send e-news as we have over the years – but we want to discontinue doing that and have everyone getting it from the website. While you are on the website – check out the new format – the dropdown boxes – etc – and also check out the icons at the very top right – twitter – YouTube – Facebook.

Daniel 3:11-18 That decree also states that those who refuse to obey must be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—whom you have put in charge of the province of Babylon. They pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They refuse to serve your gods and do not worship the gold statue you have set up.”13 Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. When they were brought in, 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? 15 I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments.[f] But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?”16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
