1 Corinthians 1:25-29 – Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are. That no flesh should glory in His presence.
I Just Can’t Do It! – Growing up – this phrase, was a basic part of my DNA. My dad always had an interesting comeback – he would say – CAN’T NEVER DID ANYTHING. That was obvious motivation to “give it the ole college try. I’m sure each of us have used that I can’t do it – sometime in our life — maybe you have used it recently. You are up for a promotion but you are struggling with the responsibility the new position offers and conclude you are not skilled enough. You may have been asked to do a task at church – and you are thinking a) I don’t know the Bible well enough b) what if I flub up I would be to embarrassed c) God may have put it on your heart to witness to a family member or work associate, but the voice that clamors for your attention says that you’ll fail. Often the thing that God lays out for us to do is bigger than we are.
Our Weakness Reveals God’s Strength – The good news is this – it is not about our Goodness – Strength or Wisdom. As a matter of fact – just the opposite is true. God chooses those who are inadequate in and of themselves (Moses stuttered – Peter and John were fisherman – Rahab was a prostitute – Matthew worked for the IRS— John Mark was a scaredy cat — so that the ultimate glory goes to Him. Paul educationally was more than qualified – yet in the midst of his ministry he wrote these words to the struggling Corinthian church 2 Cor 12:9-10 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. You see, when we serve out of our weakness and God’s strength, it is obvious to everyone that the that when things are being accomplished, it is through the power of the Holy Spirit – and not the ingenuity or wisdom of man.
Dependence on God – There is nothing wrong to say each day as we assume our responsibilities — I cannot do this but God and do it through me. Put yourself at God’s disposal – relying 100% of His strength, wisdom, and goodness and 0% on your own. Learn to say – God you are my strength – God you are my portion – God you are my life…Today I will depend totally on YOU. As you begin to see success, don’t forget that it is God who strengthens you, provides the ability for you to do the work, gives you favor, and opens doors. It isn’t about you, but about the God who deserves all the honor and glory. He is the One who should be acknowledged in the midst of “your” success.
Psa 122:1 – I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Discovery – this Friday evening, everyone is invited to the campus to P R A Y……
Friday Night Prayer Gathering
7:00 PM – ????
There is nothing rigid about this evening. You can come – pray for a period of time and leave. You can come much later in the evening and pray till we close at 9:00 PM. You can come at 7 and pray for 2 hours…… Ross and Doug provide background music for the evening…..at times we lift our voices in song – at other times we meditate on God’s Word….but the predominate theme for the evening is PRAYER. What I’m saying here finds it truth in this weekend’s message…..Daniel prayed and fasted for 21 days – but it took the angel 3 weeks to come to him. When the angel came to Daniel, He reminded Daniel that he had been in a major spiritual battle with the spirit of the prince of Persia. There is NO doubt in my mind there are many demonic angels circling over Columbia led by the spirit prince of Columbia — and the last thing they want to see is a church, meeting for 2 hours to do nothing but ask the God of heaven to tear down spiritual strongholds that keeps its citizens from coming to Jesus. Will YOU be one who will intercede for the LOST – the BROKEN – the BACKSLIDDEN – our LEADERS – that Discovery will be so in touch with God – that His favor will be experienced by all on a continual basis? 2 Chron 7:14 if My people which are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgiven their sins and heal their land.

In the opening verses of our text this weekend we find Daniel is in mourning and has fasted 21 days. Why? Soon, he is visited by what looks like a man – who has the same attire as the man in Rev 1:13-14….Is Daniel being visited by a pre-incarnate Christ – or an angel? As Daniel saw this heavenly visitor – how did he respond? What message does this individual give to Daniel? How many times in this chapter, was Daniel touched by an Angel? What statement did the angel say to Daniel that encouraged him greatly….Why would the angel tell him in v12 not to be afraid? What event kept the angel from coming to Daniel 21 days earlier? Do you feel this type of spiritual warfare continues today? How does Eph 6:12 fit into the picture? MEMORIZE the 1st part of V19? Do not be afraid, for you are deeply loved by God. Be at peace; take heart and be strong.
12 “At that time Michael, the archangel[a] who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued. 2 Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. 3 Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. 4 But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.” 5 Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing on opposite banks of the river. 6 One of them asked the man dressed in linen, who was now standing above the river, “How long will it be until these shocking events are over?” 7 The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, “It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. When the shattering of the holy people has finally come to an end, all these things will have happened.” 8 I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, “How will all this finally end, my lord?” 9 But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means. 11 “From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[b] is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days. 12 And blessed are those who wait and remain until the end of the 1,335 days! 13 “As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you.”
