Committed-to-Christ-468x223  The last words of Jesus was this….go make disciples!…..But what is a disciple?  Is being a disciple the same as being a Christian?  Are there various degrees of discipleship?  A disciple means a learner, pupil, a follower.  A old time preacher – Dwight Pentecost said this about his study of the word DISCIPLESHIP – you will have the a) curious, b) the convinced, and c) the committed. Jesus used the term to mean to be FULLY COMMITTED in order to follow and learn from Him.  It means a life devotion to JESUS – a life of self-denial and complete obedience to His Word.                              For a moment – let’s look at another word COMMITMENT!!  Luke 14 and Rom 12 suggests it means dying to self and allowing Jesus to take complete charge – it is the full surrender by faith to surrender the right to run our life – to the full control and will of God.  It means putting Him first and seeking the Kingdom – the reign and rule of God in our lives!!!!                                                                                                                                  It is this kind of commitment Jesus calls us to if we are going to be His disciples!!!  All the commands and principles of the Bible can be summed up in one great truth.  Matt 22:37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  One of the goals of discipleship is to Luke 6:40 become like one’s teacher and Rom 12:1-2 to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  What does a lack of commitment translate in serving our Lord?  In both Matt 6:24 and Luke 14:26 – we see the lack of commitment disabling us – because we are enslaved to a) wrong values which in turn create b) wrong loves, c) wrong priorities and end in d) wrong pursuits.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Here is a picture of a committed disciple!!!  He/she walks through life as a pilgrim – merely a temporary resident – traveling light with a loose grip on things.  As the Savior leads and guides he/she is one who is willing to give up material wealth and the security it provides along with possessions – comfort – prestige – and other treasures of this world.                                                                                                                                     Lastly, – everyone ask this question – Am I trying to do the impossible in seeking to serve both God and the world?  Jesus said no one could serve 2 masters – for he will love one and hate the other.   James 1:7-8 speaks of the effects of being divided in our minds when he says  Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.  A question then that deserves serious reflection is this Who and What has my allegiance and devotion?

duck The YELLOW DUCK in the hall way is a reminder that we have chosen to help a missionary help people in Panama learn to feed themselves by fishing for Tilapia. I received an email this week from Matthew Dolon which reads….Hey everyone, I’m finally in Panama! I’ve gotten settled in and just finished week 3 of Spanish school. Praise God! It’s beautiful here in the city of David. I have my own apartment now and my jeep is through customs and I’m driving it everywhere. Every afternoon I have Spanish school for 4 hours and I’m learning a lot! Also, we just finally bought land for the demonstration farm! Discover has committed $50.00 per month to this mission. Every $ you place in the yellow duck – you are purchasing Tilapia – as well as providing the living for the young man who has been called by God to make a difference in hundreds of poor people.

1. As a Christian – can you think of any discipline that would build your spiritual character and serve Christ more than prayer?
2. As a Christian – can you think of anything our nation needs more than intercessory prayer right now?
3. As a Christian – can you think of any Spiritual discipline practiced by Jesus more than prayer?
4. As a Christian – wouldn’t you want Jesus’ words to echo over Discovery that this is a House of Prayer?
5. As a Christian – can you hear the forlorn cry of those who live within 5 miles of our campus saying “Come over here and help us”? Acts 16:9
6. As a Christian – have you considered that we as a church are not where we need to be. James 4:3 – “You have not because you ask not?”
7. As a Christian – can you think of any reason why you wouldn’t want to join your Christian family November 7th and unite hearts and spirits in prayer?

daniel2text The challenge before us as we study the Book of Daniel only intensifies, as we will open Chapter 9 this weekend. Please read the chapter before our Celebration services. The 1st 19 vss we find Daniel praying for his people….please notice how he prepares himself physically before he even approaches the Throne of Grace. Also note the word choices he uses for their sins. Also pick up on the WE’s and US’s…..Note the character trails he uses for God?
In v21 – Gabriel pays Daniel a 2nd visit to give him insight and understanding (V22) – then Gabriel interprets his vision beginning in v24….A period of 70 sets of 7….v25…7 sets of 7 plus 62 sets of 7…..v26…after 62 sets of 7 the Anointed One will be killed? Who is the Anointed on in v25? Who is the Anointed One in v26? Who is the ruler of v27? This ruler will make a treaty with the peple for a period of one set of 7.… You can see our work is cut out….please make every effort to worship with us as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper and open His eternal Word for our insight and understanding.

logo-ncc-community-groups While he was speaking to me, I looked down at the ground, unable to say a word. 16 Then the one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing in front of me, “I am terrified by the vision I have seen, my lord, and I am very weak. 17How can someone like me, your servant, talk to you, my lord? My strength is gone, and I can hardly breathe.” 18 Then the one who looked like a man touched me again, and I felt my strength returning.19 “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are deeply loved by God. Be at peace; take heart and be strong!”  As he spoke these words, I suddenly felt stronger and said to him, “Now you may speak, my lord, for you have strengthened me.” 20 He replied, “Do you know why I have come? Soon I must return to fight against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia, and then against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Greece. 21 But before I do that, I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (There is no one to help me against these spirit princes except Michael, your spirit prince. “
