Without a doubt everyone at Discovery has felt at one time or another inadequate for a task for which they had been called on. Maybe it was to serve communion – or give a communion thought —- maybe you were asked to step up and lead a D-Group – or to lead in prayer at a gathering……If God has called us to a ministry – He will definitely equip us to fulfill it for His glory. The Devil on the other hand would love to make all of us feel we are not adequate unlock the church house for services…..Big difference between God and Satan……
Church – also know that sometimes God gives us a supernatural calling so He can demonstrate His supernatural nature…..SURE – in our effort – mentality – ability we are not up to the task…..but in His name – by His Spirit – and for His glory – be mountains can move…..Prepare yourself to be a mountain mover……?????
Moses had led the children of Israel for 4 decades – coming out of Egypt to the very edge of the Promised Land. As they looked over the situation – they were overcome by FEAR. Here is what they saw —– they noted the size & number and strength of their enemy —-contrasting that with their own weakness and inabilities. We should ask them – what occurred on those few days prior to leaving Egypt? Didn’t something occur to the Egyptians that numbered about 10? What happened at the Red Sea…..HOW QUICK WE FORGET WHAT GOD HAS DONE – and how quick we remember what we cannot do!!!!!
Like the children of Israel, we can give in to fear and then focus on the expectation of certain failure. As the obstacle grows in our minds, our feet run in the opposite direction, away from the challenge and toward safety. However, turning away from the task that God has given us will lead us not to security but into bondage. By allowing fear to control our choices, we’ll become chained to feelings of inadequacy, which will shape our future decisions and, ultimately, our destinies.
As a result of their refusal to trust the Lord and move forward to conquer the land, the Israelites were consigned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. The men who did not believe God’s promise never saw the land that He wanted to give them. Opportunities are always lost when we let fear overrule our faith.
When God calls you to a task that you consider beyond your abilities, instead of giving in to your feelings, (1) think of a biblical example where God showed Himself strong and the odds were certainly against the righteous….(2) think of a time God chose to show Himself strong to you – and how at least for a moment your faith grew exponentially!!!
By moving forward in faith despite our feeling/thoughts, we will discover the Lord’s faithfulness. He always empowers us for the works He assigns us
Some people hear the word college and various/sundry thought flow through their mind i.e. cost — party — hard work – late nights – etc…..Bro Ross has opened a mininstry that everyone of us should ponder….
Is my knowledge of God’s Word adequate? If someone told me where is the story of David and Goliath in the Bible — could I give Book/Chapter/ Could I give the timeline whether it is O.T. N.T. was it before Abraham or after Moses….
Many people do not witness to their lost family members or friends because they feel inadequate regarding the Bible – they will get asked a question they can’t answer – Man you ought to take advantage of Discovery College…..
God desires that we be WHOLE….that means complete – mature in 3 areas — Body – Soul – and Spirit….therefore at the college you will be asked to do a little more than show up for class….
1) Study your bible daily
2) Do the lesson assigned
3) Exercise 30 minutes daily
One lady taking the class – Liz says “already the class has given me more confidence than I’ve ever had”… What a testimony —- Check it out at DiscoverHim.org
Spent the morning with a representative of The Boone County Clerk – Wendy Nowen’s Office……He wanted to examine our facility to see if we would be adequate to be a polling place for the Presidential Election – Nov 8? He liked what he saw – and said – “you know those who will be voting here also live here – and maybe they will like what they see and come back Sunday!!” I told him that was a major reason we agreed – yet we want to serve the city also…………….Last week I reported that a church had asked to use our building for their Wednesday evening services. After that report – the preacher got with me saying their real estate agent found them a worship place where they wouldn’t have to move their equipment back and forth – so that “fell through.” We do believe Rom 8:28 – just as much as John 3:16…………….Madison Duff and her golfing buddy Oliva won the 2 ball scramble Tuesday afternoon at Blue Spring. The girls are on the Rock Bridge golf team…………..PTL – we had at least 3 or 4 first timers attending one of our D-Groups last week…..
Apparently, the weather is keeping a lot of people out of heaven.
I regularly hear “The reason people aren’t here is because it’s to sunny/rainy/snowy/foggy/nice/miserable/hot/cold/windy out.” One minister said he has heard a person say the wind often impacts church attendance.
What is so contrasting to me is that to either participate in a sport to observe a sporting contest — time never is factored in – nor is the weather. Does anyone remember when Alabama played Mizzou a few years ago — a deluge hit during the 1st half — many stayed till half time & a few die-hard fans remained till the final gun sounded.
What I have learned is this — people will drive through almost anything for something they VALUE. So what’s the lesson!!!
The best way to battle the weather is to have something so compelling, people don’t want to miss it.
When they don’t want to miss it, they won’t. Unless their life is in danger. And then, that will not stop hockey in Canada or football in the United States
Again, we have the Gospel. When we present it well, that should be a mission worth everything.

2 Pet 3:1-13 This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. 2 I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles. 3 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.4 They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” 5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed. 8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. 11 Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live,12 looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. 13 But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
