We Must Continue to Follow God
Heb 3:12-15 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 Remember what it says:
“Today when you hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled.”
How do we find God and grow in Him? Jesus was very serious at this point. He said we must do what He says. We must put into practical obedience the knowledge that we have. He continually asked people to drop their nets, to sell all they had and to follow Him.
We might say that Jesus had a theology of obedience. And the object of this obedience was a living person, not a code of laws, but Himself. He called people to be accountable to God whether they were believers or skeptics who were searching. For example, He told His disciples, “What is the point of calling me, ‘Lord, Lord’ without doing what I tell you to do.” Luke 6:46
Jesus knew that obedience to His father’s words resulted in faith…..if I had to sum up one’s response to the gospel message, I would say as William Pannell has said, “either paint or get off the ladder.” Jesus approached people exactly like that. He told them to pick their brush and paint something.
Do you want to discover who Jesus is and deal honestly with your doubts? Jesus’ style is not to suggest that you go ponder the virgin birth for three months, but begin doing what He says.
What does an unbelieving heart lead us to do? What is the relationship between obedience and belief? When our life is over, what will God ask us to explain? Are you ready to answer Him?
When I set up the dental appointment for last Friday – I asked the dentist if I would be able to preach on Sunday? He was quick to say – there is no way you would be able to speak Sunday!!……I approached Deiter a month ago – asking him if he would preach in my absence. He was more that willing to step up and share the Word at both Celebration Services.
Already this week, a member quoted something Deiter said in the message – and another wanted to listen to the message again and study out the points he made.
Thanks Deiter – I know you love to share the word, and the body is blessed when you do!!!
This weekend you will find 2 Sign Up Sheets on the information table.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. 19 And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.
21 To bring you up to date, Tychicus will give you a full report about what I am doing and how I am getting along. He is a beloved brother and faithful helper in the Lord’s work. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose—to let you know how we are doing and to encourage you. 23 Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters, and may God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you love with faithfulness.

Most of you know our old refrigerator “bit the dust.” Jerry found a much smaller one which is now located in the janitor’s room. Some discussion has transpired as to its location – but a few men met at church yesterday and “solved the problem.” ……………Beginning the weekend of Sept 18 – our sermon series will be from the Book of Joshua – and that series will take us into our Christmas Series. Later today, I will send the September Bible reading chart to you – which will be the Book of Joshua. Our series will be entitled – The Gospel According to Joshua…………..Beginning next Wednesday evening – through the month of January you drive by our church and see many cars – and lights on inside – please know another church has rented our campus for 6 months while they build their building off Ballenger Lane…………….If you haven’t checked out Discovery College – please do at Discoverhim.org…………. Even though this weekend is a holiday weekend – the passage in Ephesians 6:12 is one of the most important Scriptures in the book…..Trust everyone if not traveling will be in either our Saturday Celebration or our Sunday Celebration…..for those who travel – please catch it online so you will “up to speed” with th rest of us……………at our men’s D-Group yesterday a great idea was thrown out……1) there are 6 parts of the Spiritual Armor we are to put on daily 2) why don’t each man print an image of this and tape it either on his mirror – microwave – or frig – thus they will be reminded daily of being prepared to fight the enemy with God’s weapons…..Maybe everyone could follow this example…………….
