Our theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name. To further highlight our theme, we’ve chosen Isaiah 58:1 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”
For TODAY’S observances, Dr. Tony Evans, the 2016 Honorary Chairman, wrote a special prayer to be simultaneously read throughout the nation at noon. This recitation will create a huge wave of prayer, flowing from one coast to the other, illustrating the unity of God’s people and acknowledging His dominion over the circumstances facing us. Millions of people will gather to pray at thousands of events facilitated by our volunteer coordinators!!! I’m sad to day TODAY, there will be no unified effort of our churches to collectively gather and pray for AMERICA – and the CHURCH.
Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your supernatural intervention on behalf of our beloved nation. First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today.
This is why our hearts are so broken over how You continue to be marginalized and dismissed by both our people and our institutions. We are also saddened by the fact that Your people have contributed greatly to the spiritual apathy that now engulfs us. Our satisfaction in remaining religious without being fully committed to living out the truths of Your Word has caused us to become co-conspirators with the forces of evil that are destroying us as a society.
It is for this reason that we personally and collectively repent of our carnality and recommit ourselves to becoming visible and verbal disciples of Jesus Christ. Enable us, by Your Spirit, to no longer be secret agent Christians but rather to publicly declare and live out Your truth in a spirit of love so that You feel welcome in our country once again.
Thank You for Your promise to hear our prayers when we call to You with hearts of repentance and obedience, which is how we are appealing to You today, Father. On behalf of Your church, we affirm afresh the priority You are to us that You would fill every dimension of our lives as we seek to bring You glory through the advancement of Your kingdom in our personal lives, our family lives, and in the lives of our churches and our government leaders. We confidently invite heaven’s intervention into all the affairs of our nation and we praise You in advance for Your answer.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day most commonly falls on the second Sunday in May and traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts.
The 1st topic in our Reel to Real series deals with Domestic Abuse — and the Bible story for our study will be Judges 11 – the story of Jephthah and his daughter. The 2 D-Groups I’ve attended this week have been phenomenal—Everyone felt like there were multiple people at Discovery who had either recently experienced rejection or were currently going through it – so we stopped and silently prayed for those individuals…..verbal reports of rejection blew us away. We can ask questions regarding abuse and rejection till the cows come home – but do we have a solution to the problem?
This series would be a great time to invite our non-church friends because they are familiar with the different movies – and would immediately have a connection to the message.
Recently, in E-News, upon the birth of Isaiah Baker – as I listed specific family members – I committed a major oversight in omitting several….I’d like to make restitution here and include them in the celebration of new life……Nancy Nowlin – great grandmother – Dennis Nowlin – great grandfather – Stacy Nowlin Hersey – aunt – April Yoder – grandmother – please accept my apology for this oversight……………..Ross Steelman on Monday, won the district golf championship at Fort Leonard Wood course. Of the 50 golfers who played — Ross was the only player to shoot under par. He won the championship by 4 strokes…..He has accomplished something great – and a wonderful future in golf awaits him……………..Tom and Eileen were in Lincoln, NEB over the weekend. Tom ran another marathon – but he was also able to see his brother Dan. A few months ago – Tom made 2 trips to Lincoln and gave his brother some stem cells as Dan was fighting cancer…recently they received word they were no longer working for Dan….Tom was able to have another visit with his brother – and we know that time was precious…………..Ysabelle Drage had her 16th birthday recently and now has her drivers license…………….A few months ago due to a problem we had in the furnace room – water collected and ran under the wall into the west children’s room. Jackie noted mold growing. Last Thursday – Kevin Neville and his team came out and SOLVED our problem – they removed the mold and cleaned the carpet at no cost to us…..great to have good friends and we appreciate this deeply……………..

Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. However, boxing is in his blood, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky’s help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen.
