Life is hard. For some it is impossible. Maybe you would say “this describes what I’ve been through the past month’s?” I lost my mother 25 years ago – couldn’t understand why God took her as he grandchildren were coming alone — they needed her wisdom, love and care….I still do not know the answer to that but I can tell you what I do know. God is good no matter what.
God Gives Us Free Will…..Since Adam and Eve were given a choice in that beautify garden, lie was about to change…(Gen 3:6-19)….yet we cannot blame them….we would have chosen the same thing….how do I know…we all want our own way. Once they chose to eat the forbidden fruit the whole game changed. Prior to the fall – God provided for them in all ways….Adam was given great responsibility but he also enjoyed his work……..no sickness….no death….no sin…..simply 2 people depending on their Heavenly Father 100%.
Adam and Eve got to choose. While we are living on earth, there will be hard things to muddle through. Sometimes because of our decision….sometimes because of the decisions of others…those hard times are out there.
God Will Never Leave Us….God has never promised life would be easy for a Christian – or a non-Christian….What God did promise is this – no matter what you must go through I will be with you ever step of the way. Please be encouraged by Deut 31:6 So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” God, like a loving dad will hold our hand – or if things get to scary – will carry us. We can nuzzle our heads into his neck & know it going to be okay…..God is right there.
God Gives Us Grace …..Maybe you wonder why God didn’t warn us how hard life would be…Well He did….the last verse of Jn 16 – God reminds us that in this world we will have trials and sorrow – but be of good cheer – God has overcome the world. When the Dr said – “the Jennings baby will not live through the night.” God stood with us…When I stood at my mother’s casket – God was with me – when I peached my father’s funeral – God was with me— there is not ONE hard thing I have experienced along – God has always kept His promise.
God Has Purpose for Pain….may the biggest question you face as a Christian is this – why does a Christian have to experience such pain? God has reasons may we will not understand till we get to heaven. When we cannot understand we must trust – Rom 8:28 –all things are working together for good to those who love the Lord and are the called according to His purposes…. Even though life is HARD…..God is GOOOOOD
On the table between the restrooms – THIS WEEKEND you will see a tri-fold board with a sign up…the board has a pew pictures of what Christians have done before…..
This weekend we want to begin our sign-up for the SERVE THE CITY work day – April 29…..Discovery along with other churches will be working side-by-side helping neighbors accomplish that which they would never be able to do by themselves. It is our privilege to put CHRISTIANITY IN ACTION – and Love your Neighbor….Love to see a dozen or more sign on the dotted line this weekend…..
Illness kept me from the fellowship of the saints, and the Lord’s Table last weekend. When I woke up on Sunday morning knowing I couldn’t “answer the bell.” This thought flooded my mind…..today I’m a member of the Church of the Unattended….Would to God the only reason any Christian would not attend church is illness or death – but this doesn’t seem to be true. If I had my choice to either be in Church on Sunday or home in bed sick – it doesn’t take a Philadelphia lawyer to make that decision….
Why do I appreciate being with God’s family on the weekend? I know rich fellowship awaits – I know encouragement awaits — I know worship awaits – I know eating the body and blood of the Lord awaits – I know listening to God speak to me through His word awaits – but maybe most of all I know My Father in Heaven will be looking for me and I had better now disappoint Him.
God continued to heal my body into Monday and Tuesday. Temp had been down and I felt like attending Tuesday afternoon prayer time at the church…our prayer warriors lifted up many names of those who once attended Discovery regularly but have gone AWOL…..as I heard this I thought again – a member of the church of the Unattended…I admit I do not know their spiritual heart. I can tell you that there is seriously something missing in the life of a Christian that does not regularly attend church. The picture at the top of this article is a good visual of a believer without regular church attendance.
So grateful to Jimmy and Kristin for stepping up and praying over Madison Duff – setting her apart by prayer – and sending her to the mission field in Barbados for spring break…..Thoughts and prayers go with you Madison………….Jackie is developing a mentoring ministry without our Children’s education and she is praising God for it success and the youth who are actively involved….parent’s if your youth in not involved – may it is something you and they would like to check out………….Glad to hear there were 25 at the Saturday evening Celebration Service………..Bro Tom Detore began his spring/summer running this past weekend in Alabama…………….All the groups are doing well – and we are still a long way from being where we want and need to be as a Cell Church — Everyone reading these lines – please consider how a D-Group would benefit you – and what you could give to the Group….the D-Group is the heart/soul of Discovery………..
What a privilege to have Deiter preach to/for us last weekend. It goes without saying that Deiter loves the Lord – the Lord’s Word – the Lord’s family – and loves to proclaim the gospel truth. Several of you have gotten back to me how we are blessed to have such talent in our little church –and how much you were encouraged by the message of the Rich man and Lazarus….thanks to everyone and especially Deiter…..

A couple years ago – Mrs. Eileen Detore lead us through the Sedar meal. It was powerful – educational – and worshipful. Since then we have made it a tradition. Though the Passover has been observed since Exodus 12 – every aspect of it has to do with Jesus the Christ. We want all to come – to learn – to worship – and to be blessed as move into Resurrection Day Sunday.
The Passover Seder will be celebrated at Discovery – April 13 at 6:30 PM. All are welcome but we are asking everyone to sign up in advance.
Matt 7:7-9 7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
