It is a known fact that a good number of professing Christians no longer attend church….the fact that many no longer attend church is not a myth – it is a real concern. Obviously each one has multiple excuses why they no longer attend and what is sad – they are deceived thinking God will buy into this excuse. Let’s examine 3….
a) I’ve been hurt by a previous church or someone within the church
Sadly, this statement is often true…..many have been emotionally hurt by the behavior of other people. Let’s face it – church is full of sinner – hopefully redeemed sinners – but sinners nonetheless. But someone’s sin against you is not a good excuse for you to sin against God by ignoring His plan (Heb 10:25). God wants all Christians to identify and become involved with the local church.
b) The Church is full of Hypocrites
This was a problem in the 1st century – it is a problem today. As often stated, the church is not a museum of the righteous, but a hospital for sin-sick souls. I have a sin nature – and I know I will sin against Jesus and God – but this isn’t a good reason to avoid the church – for few things could be more hypocritical than professing to love Christ wile refusing to identity with His body – the people who have been redeemed by His precious blood.
c) I can worship God better on my own
Some believers feel they can approach God directly through Christ and do not need to be connected to the local church. But if God’s plan for this age involves his people assembling together for Teaching, Fellowship, Lords Supper, and Mutual Accountability, then it doesn’t ultimately matter how one feels. One cannot worship God better by ignoring his instructions and the model that is pretty clearly laid out in the New Testament
The above thoughts only scratch the surface to why a believer doesn’t need to be connected to the Local Church. Discovery – let’s pray and not condemn those we know who are struggling with identifying with the local church….maybe right now you could lift up a few names before the Throne of Grace that God will extend mercy – encouragement, and reconciliation to the local body.

I just received word that Marcy Henderson’s father passed away. We extend the deepest sympathy to Marcy in her loss. Last weekend she was not with us because she had received word her father had fallen and she left to be with him. Marcy we are so sorry to hear this news.
Isa. 57:1-2 Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. 2 For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.
July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. Trust everyone will have a good one….
Ephesians 3:10 God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. I confess, I had never seen this verse as many times as I’ve worked through Ephesians……I’m enamored with it – I shared that in the 2 groups I’ve been with this week — thinking seriously about using it as the sole Scripture for this week’s lesson…..WOW – it broadsided me – I looked at many commentaries as to its meaning…..I do love it and it explains so much of what is going on which we cannot explain….Hope you will be with us to “unpack” it at our Celebration Services….
Eph 3:14-21 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,[a] 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.[b] 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
