Staying Motivated With My Faith
Having accepted Christ 30 years ago, how in the world and I stay motivated in my faith?  I know it is easier for a new Christian – but how do I stay motivated 7 days a week?
I remember Jesus’ scathing words to the church in Ephesus – Rev 2:4 – you have lost your first love…. How dos one keep from losing their first love? At baptism, esus changes your life, but over the long haul, how does one stay motivated?
If you are married, how do you maintain a relationship with your spouse?  One must watch it or over time you will take your spouse for granted. Make sure you cultivate the relationship by spending regular time with them…Have a date night…. Acknowledge the best thing to do for the kids is you to have a strong marriage.
How do we spend time with God?
·      Open His Word and spend regular time there!!!  We must watch it here also – or we will just open the Bible to say I’ve done that and go on assuming all will be well.  Here we must not let QUALITY time slip.
·      Have a Bible reading plan– whether you use Discovery’s monthly plan or your own – be intentional to get into God’s Word daily
·      Incorporate PRAYER into your daily Bible reading.  We just finished studying Col. 1 – might start there where Paul prayed for the Colossians praying for the knowledge of God’s Will, a greater Christlikeness,
·      Acknowledge God will have divine appointments daily you are unaware. These experiences help you stay fresh & focused on the Lord. Our relationship with Christ needs to be a love relationship, and although we certainly want to be obedient and need to obey Him even when we don’t feel like it, we’re nonetheless daily asking God to be present in our lives. We can trust He’ll answer that prayer because He has promised us, Matt 28:20 “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” As we pursue knowing the Lord Jesus Christ, we will sense the very presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives.

With sadness of heart, I wanted to let you know the details of the funeral arrangements for Dennis Nowlin, who passed from this life last Saturday evening. The memorial service will be:

Discovery Exists to help people Discover God

Several questions have been asked over the months regarding Discovery…..

·      Is it possible for a church to succeed north of I-70?

·      We could do that if the budget allowed us to?

·      Why does 20% of the church carry 80% of the load?

·      How can one become active in the body of Christ?

The answer to each of these questions can be answered in one statement…..if we only did what Jesus and the New Testament ask us to do – all questions would be answered.

The final words of Jesus in the New Testament book of Matthew challenged His followers to go into all the world and preach the gospel….to baptize those who believe the message and then disciple those who belong to Jesus’ family.   Putting a challenge to Discovery….with the help of Jesus through prayer let’s become passionate to WIN ONE soul to Christ this summer….

At the leadership team meeting last Sunday evening we discussed what might be done if the budget allowed it to be accomplished….what’s the scooooooooooop????…..we saw the financial report for the 1st6 months of 2018 – and we are behind budget $1,000.00 per month this year —- that is $6,000 we do not have to give to missions – to give to kid’s camp – and by hook/crook – we are going to go ahead with V.B.S. in late July….Putting a challenge to Discovery – with the help of Jesus through prayer let’s become passionate to a) be consistent with our giving – b) if we are giving 4% – let’s try 5% and look for the ways God will honor His word which is “test me in this says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Let’s think of it this way —- our bodies are made up of diverse organs – multiple limbs – piece/parts of the 5 senses – etc….if only 20% of your body worked – how long would you live.  There is something for every member of the body of Christ to do – and as each part functions as it was designed – the body will grow – remain healthy – and be the witness – Light – example that will attract others and all to the glory of God. Putting a challenge to Discovery – with the help of Jesus through prayer let’s be passionate about doing what we enjoy – meals to sick – landscaping the property – volunteering in children’s ministry – prayer walking the neighborhood – being an encourager of those who lead worship – taking a personal interest in the Blessing Box…. all for the glory of the Lord and His Christ.

Where – Discovery Center

When – July 26-28

Something is up this summer….we cannot begin to keep food in the Blessing Box….therefore I am appealing to Discovery to:

1)   Feed the YELLOW DUCK each weekend with something – all funds go to purchased food for the Blessing Box

2)   We can put a little more of our financial gift in the offering knowing the church is committed to $100.00 per month

3)   Bring a Wal-Mart sack full of non-perishables when you attend the weekend Celebration service

The Blessing Box is one outreach that is touching lives in our community – let’s keep a good thing going!! Amen

Let those who know

Tell those who don’t

Col 2:11-19  When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature.[c] 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed[d] the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

16 So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.18 Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels,[e] saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud, 19 and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.
