Heb 11:36-38  Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

The 11th chapter of Hebrews is always referred to as the Hall of Faith Chapter in the Bible.

All students of the Bible are more than familiar with what Hebrews 11 says regarding the faith of Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Joseph & Moses.  But few are familiar with the significance of those mentioned in the last several verses of the Chapter.

What I find unique is that those mentioned in the 1st half of the chapter are wonderful accomplishments of faith- but those mentioned in the last section speak of what great suffering they endured because of their faith in God.

It is preached in some churches today, we hear that if we have enough faith we will be:  happy….wealthy….and healthy….My question here is this….those mentioned at the end of Heb 11 were they faithless – were they sinful….why oh, why did they suffer as they did?

Phil 1:29 for the sake of Christ, you should not only believe in Him but also suffer for His sake…..John 16:33 we will have trouble in this world.

“…for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him, but also suffer for his sake” and John 16:33 tells us we will have trouble in this world.  Would you agree that those who suffer from chronic pain, these verses speak volumes?

1 Tim 6:12 fight the good fight of faith….as we see demonstrated by the Godly men whom the world was not worthy –  these men showed the world by their faith in suffering that JESUS is worth everything – even their lives.

Will you walk by faith trusting God’s goodness, no matter what road He has planned for you today? Read 2 Corinthians 10-12 to be challenged and encouraged by the life of Paul who endured great suffering by faith.

Some very very special occurred this week at DISCOVERY.  Last week, I received an email from Emily Spain, who is a news co-anchor at KOMU.  She had read Sarah Hill’s post on Facebook regarding our Blessing Box, and wondered if I would be interested in her coming out and interviewing us.  We had 2/3 back-forth emails, and it all came to fruition on Tuesday afternoon.

Emily first interviews Jerry (who brought the idea to us in the 1st place)…..As she asked me questions she was interested in the process for us to get to our current property….Following my spot – she wanted to film me filling the Blessing Box…..I told Emily, the church is not financing the cost of food – the box is filled by our members bring food each week.  As we finished the interview Kay Baker and daughter Eva brought 2 large sacks of food for the Box……

EMILY, will be at church this Sunday – not sure all she wants to accomplish – maybe it is 2-fold….(a) seeing each of us bringing a sack of food for the Box – (b) asking us our thoughts about the Box…..She did not tell us when the interview would air, but I’ll keep you posted.

Let’s join hearts and spirits in prayer that God will use this to help us turn the corner as our community will see we are here to serve – help – and minister to the community.

We have had 2 weather-related weekends in a row….Snow & slick 2 weeks ago – and cancellation last Sunday…..so grateful to those who checked the weather report and attended Saturday’s worship….This weekend it will be cold – but the church will be warm – and hopefully everyone will be “back in the saddle” and we will bring an excitement – a desire to study/learn/give/grow/and fellowship with the body……………Deiter Duff preached last Sunday at the Columbia Christian Church – where he had served for several years.  They enjoyed the reunion with faithful friends and the opportunity to worship together again…………To follow up on the article regarding the Blessing Box — Tuesday, I packed it to the “gills” – and I had a meeting at the church Wednesday afternoon and it was empty…..please bring a few non-perishable items with you as you come to Discovery this weekend.  Thank you…………….We want everyone to daily get into God’s Word – so we are all reading the Book of Romans during the month of January……………Kristen Yoder sailed out to sea last Friday with the Navy — at Group this AM – Solomon told us he isn’t for sure where she is headed but assumes toward Korea as a presence during the winter Olympics…….may we each follow Scripture and Pray One For Another (James 5:16)…… I have faith that we will remember to bless the Spiritual Bride financially as we are already behind with the inclement weather the past 2 weeks…..

…God will use the interview regarding the Blessing Box to advance His Kingdom

…God will develop a hunger for the Bread of life for those using the Blessing Box

…Covering over our Youth at School, and a passion to bring friends to Christ

…D-Groups will flourish this year – and with God’s blessing and grace we will

     start 2 or more

This Sunday evening January 14, will be our next Sunday Evening PRAYER Gathering.  Prayer time begins at 5:00 PM. And we sing the doxology at 6:00 PM.  Hopefully everyone could give 10 – 15 minutes on the Lord’s Day, to meet with God’s people to pray for the Bride –for the Lost – for the Sick – for one another – for missionaries – for AMERICA – and the crime and alcohol that is now a blight to Columbia…..

The passage of Scripture, our D-Groups will be studying next week are as follows….

Eph 5:22-24  For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.

Eph 5:25-29  For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.[b] 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.30 And we are members of his body.

1 Pet 3:7  In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
