Isaiah 43:11 I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.
As Americans, we have experienced historic elections, as many of those who voted were not happy with the country’s direction. Certain political clichés were voiced and it gave hope to a younger generation. Great joy welcomed a new face – with new plans and hopes. I’m afraid there are too any Americans with several Christians included who believe the Government will SAVE us from our problems. We expect the government to provide new jobs – so we will be able to afford a better and bigger house – and maybe become debt free and live a much more comfortable life. These politicians can in turn become our saviors. And then, when they fail to save us from our “problems”, we ignorantly look to the next politician for rescue. It might work for a year or two, but we are then forced to turn to another. In reality these men and women are no saviors at all.
We are never told in the Bible that we need to be saved from higher taxes, poor paying jobs, small apartments, or even national debt. Those of the BIBLE days – were given names with meaning and the individual would be encouraged by parents to live up the meaning of their name. It is no wonder God revealed Himself to us by what His Name means…Jehovah Jirih – the Lord will Provide – Jehovah Ropha – The Lord who heals you….etc…..Why did the Angel give the earthly parents of Jesus the name prior to His birth?
Matt 1:21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus,[a] for he will save his people from their sins.”
Matt 1:25…and Joseph named Him Jesus.
There are only a few people in the Scripture who were named before they were born…..Jesus was one of them – and the reason He was named Jesus was because of what His purpose was — to save us from our sins. What we truly need to be saved from is our perverse hearts that have no desire for the one true Savior, Jesus. This Savior meets our need for forgiveness of sins and hope for the future. A future that is eternal, and will continue forever. Look to the One who can save you for all time, instead of a short-lived term.
Who are you looking to as your Savior?

God has called him to work with prisoners. He is president of the prison ministry in Oklahoma City – as well as working with the prisoners in Mexico. Many over the past year have made decisions for Christ. It was interesting last night we watched the O. J. Simpson – new Tapes revealed — and while he was with the Oakland Raiders, he met O J several times – so as the story on TV, developed it was interesting to listen to his take on O.J…………….We so appreciate Rocky Philippe for allowing us to store stuff in the basement of his adjutant building. Kent and Doug went to Rocky’s garage Tuesday night and sorted through a few tubs of supplies for the audio aspect of Discovery….Rocky is renting the basement to a company that might be interested in purchasing what we don’t need. The men brought a couple tubs of supplies and they are currently being stored in the Red Building out back…………….

This is a report from the YELLOW DUCK Mission…..
At the beginning of August we had a short-term mission group from Corey’s home church come and help work on the dorm/classroom building on the farm. We made a lot of progress getting the walls covered with stucco. This week we have another short-term group, this time from Bethany’s home church, working with us on finishing construction on this building.
Thank you all so much for your continued encouragement, support, and prayers for myself and Lasting Harvest’s work to share God’s love with the Ngobe people. The more progress we make in preparing the farm, the more excited we are as the time for teaching draws closer. I would appreciate your prayers for the short-term mission group that is here to help for a week in working on finishing the dorm building. Every group that comes is like an espresso shot to our efforts here, and we always get a ton of progress done during their visits.
Thanks for reading, Dios te bendiga (God bless you),
This weekend our lesson takes us to Gen 16. One of the strangest requests in all Scripture is made by Abram’s wife Sarai….take my handmaid Hagar and have a baby…..Can you see this plan is full of problems? As soon as it is revealed Hagar is pregnant the problems start…..Abram shows tremendous signs of weakness in being the spiritual leader Sarai and Hagar needed — what was he thinking??????? How many mistakes can you count that Abram made in following through with his wife’s plan?
Have you ever taken a short-cut in trying to obey the will of God. This chapter let us in on the problems of trying to short-cut God’s plans for our lives – or for our church…..
She leaves the home and heads back to Egypt – and stops at the wilderness of Shur to drink and the angel of the Lord appears to her. He says Hagar go back to your mistress and submit to her….. Who was this angel? Could it be the Preincarnate Christ? How old was Abram when Ishmael was born? What does Ishmael’s name mean? Did you know Hagar gave God a name at the wilderness of Shur? What was it?
Hope to see everyone in worship this weekend —

Gen 17:1-8 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. 2 I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.”
3 At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him, 4 “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! 5 What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham,[a] for you will be the father of many nations. 6 I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!
7 “I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants[b] after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 And I will give the entire land of Canaan, where you now live as a foreigner, to you and your descendants. It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God.”
