On our way home from Sunday services – we received a phone call to meet the Duff family at the neighborhood pool. Madison Duff made a decision to follow Jesus in Baptism. The weather took a quick toll for the worse – we all wore raingear to the pool…..Soon Deiter and Madison walked into the water……Deiter gave a brief explanation regarding the significance and how essential baptism is to complete our salvation experience. We clapped…rejoiced….some cried as Madison was immersed into Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of her sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). Again, I was reminded of my favorite Scripture 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to know my children (and grandchildren walk in the truth)….
After I gave Madison a big hug – I asked her if she knew that 30 years ago this day – your mother and aunt Heather were baptized in Bethalto, Illinois on Father’s Day……She did not know that. What better gift could a father receive on Father’s Day than to baptize his child into Christ. Discovery – rejoice with the Duff family!!!!!
Jesus’ death on the cross defeated the power of sin and darkness and set us free to walk in the glorious light of righteousness. You and I have been transformed by the power of Jesus’ death. He took every sin we had committed and what we would commit in the future and paid sin’s penalty by dying for US on the Cross. Through the death of Jesus, you and I are now free to live as new creations formed in the righteous and holy image of our heavenly Father. 2 Cor 5:17
There is no more important way to end this week of pursuing a greater connection to our heavenly Father than accepting our new standing before God. Even though Jesus defeated the power of sin in our lives, our great enemy continues to tempt us, lie to us and steal from us the abundant life God intends. He continues to try to rob God of what he so fully deserves, a beautiful relationship with his children. But the truth is, God always wants to be with his children. God runs out to us, calls us his beloved, wraps us with honor and his righteousness and leads us into his glorious embrace. Take time and renew your mind to your righteousness in Jesus. Ask the Spirit for fresh revelation of your freedom from sin and allow your longings to be satisfied in God rather than the world today.

AGES are K – 6th grade…..It is also designed for the FAMILY…so if you take your sons and daughters – there will be something for you during the 90 minutes.
The poster above illustrates what VBS is like this year —Glenda and Mike from Kansas will present the lesson each session. They are ventriloquist – and will share the message through a “dummy”…it will definitely hold the children’s attention…
It was great to see so many in the auditorium as we worshipped the Living Christ Sunday – and good to see several 1st timers……would you pray with me that God will use t his as foundational to “blow the doors off” as we have prayed the HEDGE OF THORNS PRAYER over our area code……….Keenan Marshall’s football team won the “Bronze Medal” at the Show Me State Games. Think he said there were 7 injuries during the weekend…………Our National Convention is being conducted this week in Cincinnati – thousands of Christians gather for worship and preaching — trust this will be a spiritual shot in the arm for our brotherhood………..The two D-Groups, I have been part of this week – we had 11 Monday night – and 4 at the men’s group Wednesday morning. Everyone remember – our D-Groups are the Bread n Butter of Discovery…everyone should be involved in a mid-week life-changing group…………So good to see Tom and Eileen back with us Sunday. They have been all over the southwest part of the country – as well as California. Tom ran a marathon in Oregon………..Ross Steelman participated in the Junior Masters Golf Tournament this week in Dothan, Ala. He did exceptionally well by finishing in the top 20% of 125 golfers…………Since her surgery, Annie has had therapists and nurses come to the home. Because of her progress – she was released from all in home care this week — we praise the Lord for her progress – and thanks for continue prayer for her…………..Thanks to Jerry Noble – our campus has wonderful curb appeal – he does a great job on mowing and taking care of our yard…….Also we want to thank Kevin – he runs the brush hog on the frontage property west of us — not our property – but it certainly makes our property more attractive….thanks men…………Couple expenditures which were not budged recently. (1) 4 Nursery cribs – which have been used the past two weeks — they were $200.00 total….you might mark a designation for the cribs on your check. (2) I had 4 church signs made and have placed them in the round-about – and at Woodley and Mexico Gravel Road….the cost of these was $120.00…also hope a few will step up and give a little to offset this expense………

The 4-part study on the book of Philippians is a gold mine in pursing Christ and how to be a Christian in a non-Christian world. At our Celebration Service this weekend our study will look at Chapter 3. For the most of Paul’s adult life he boasted in his Phariseeism —which was a religion of legalism – he boasted of his education – but after he met Jesus on the road to Damascus – he sings a totally different tune….Listen to him in Phil 3:7-8 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.
Are we living for this world…..or the world to come? A question for the ages is this….everything I have achieved – now that I am a Christian – do I consider everything worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ our Lord. Do I consider it garbage in comparison?
Our citizenship is in heaven (v20-21) – may that fact drive how we live – how and when we worship – how we give – how we witness. If we are not careful, this world can look very appealing and we can let go of our value system and spend our time and money on these pleasures – whereas we should be laying up treasures in heaven. (Matt 6:20).

And the God of peace will be with you. 10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. 20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever.
