I told our men at our morning D-Group Wednesday – we are now out of Grammar School and headed toward post grade work. Daniel 7 is considered by many to be the most important chapter in the book of Daniel – as well as the Old Testament. The writing is Apocalyptic Literature – much like that last three quarters of Revelation. Gregg and I have been exceedingly challenged to develop an exegetical message based on Daniel 7. It would be great if everyone read Daniel 7 a couple times prior to attending our weekend Celebration – you will have somewhat an understanding of what Daniel is prophesying. As you read it consider the following: *Daniel 2 – Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a huge statue consisting of 4 metals – most valuable – down to the less valuable *Daniel 7 – Daniel has a vision much like the King’s dream of Daniel 2 – but instead of metals – he sees an image of 4 animals – each with major mutation *Why is the “little horn” so arrogant and yet so powerful – is this “little horn” the “man of lawlessness” (2 Thes 2:6-8) – or is he the “antichrist” – 1 John 2:18 dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. The message on Dan 7 will give much insight into what is occurring globally – and how man sees the developments – and how God sees it. Our understanding of the end times will be heightened – and our challenge to be faithful to Christ regardless of the persecution will also be highlighted. Remember if for any reason you are unable to be with us – you can catch up by listening to the message either on our web-site.
Last week at our weekend Celebration services – we spoke of Daniel praying 3x’s a day out of his upper chamber – facing Jerusalem. Everyone was challenged to pray for Discovery 3x’s a day – as you go to a window of your home that faces Discovery Church. I confess, I have not hit 3x’s a day – but I have daily prayed for the church looking out my north window. What would be great is that each of us would make this a daily habit….even after we close the book on Daniel and start the Christmas series – we are still looking out that window and praying for Discovery.
If you are a 1st time guest or have worshipped with us a few times – we provide a DiscoverME card which can be found on the credenza in the foyer. Please fill our requested information and drop it in the offering box in the auditorium. 98% of our communication is done via E-mail. 1) you will receive E-News each Thursday 2) prayer requests go out weekly 3) praise reports periodically 4) important announcement that needs to be communicated before the weekend – all are communicated by E-mail. If you have not filled out one of our DiscoverMe cards, please do so ASAP – we’d love to communicate with you.
Next Thursday night (Oct 23 @ 7:00 PM) – Bro Jerry’s D-Group is hosting an all Church Movie Night. The movie we will see is God Is Not Dead!!!! What an opportunity to INVITE friends – neighbors – work associates – and introduce them to our campus –as well as seeing a life-changing movie. If you have already seen the movie – there is nothing wrong with seeing it again. I’m sure there will be an insight –a nugget you did not catch in the first viewing. Hope to see the auditorium filled as we fellowship – as we view – and as we develop convictions about witnessing – and the truth about GOD……This is GOOD STUFF!!!
This story out of Houston, TX blew my mind. The lady above is the mayor of the city and is a lesbian. Houston officials have subpoenaed sermons preached by local pastors who speak out against homosexuality – gay marriage – transgender life – or mention the mayor’s name in the message associated with these issues. As a Christian who believes the ENTIRE BIBLE – what should we do? God calls us to obey our highest authority. We render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, but to God what is God’s (Matthew 22:21). We obey civil authorities (Romans 13:1-7) unless they order us to disobey our Supreme authority. In that case, we choose to obey God at any cost. When the Sanhedrin, the supreme legal authority of the nation, ordered the apostles to cease preaching in Jesus’ Name — they replied: Acts 4:19-20 “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard”. Our Bro/Sis who live in that 10 – 40 Window – such as in North Korea, Iraq, Syria, and China would tell us to stay strong and live in the reality of 2 Tim 4:2 Preach the Word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke and encourage your people with good teaching.
· Kay Baker and family as they continue to grieve and mourn over Wilford’s home going · David Croft’s aunt passed from this life Sunday · Jerry Kamp – in the loss of her brother in Jacksonville last weekend · John Bowders – making small progress – still at the University of Virginia hospital – concern is his spinal cord injury · Anita had surgery Monday – successful procedure – and no cancer cells were found PTL. · Andrea Turner – leukemia – she has been dealing with fungal/bacteria infections – but the test yesterday indicates her body is clean of any fungal or bacteria in the samples. Today they will get results from the bronchoscopy. If that is clear – Andrea will be able to go home. · Great turn out for Sunday Night Youth Group · 100 prayers said this week as each of us go to our windows and pray for Discovery · Our Republic – upcoming midterm elections – eradication of the Ebola virus – and our leaders turning to GOD for direction. · Pray for the city (Columbia) – the move of Christ within – pastors who are preaching the gospel that God’s Spirit will hover over us and we’ll see a great influx of souls into the Kingdom.

3 As I looked up, I saw a ram with two long horns standing beside the river.[c] One of the horns was longer than the other, even though it had grown later than the other one. 4 The ram butted everything out of his way to the west, to the north, and to the south, and no one could stand against him or help his victims. He did as he pleased and became very great.
5 While I was watching, suddenly a male goat appeared from the west, crossing the land so swiftly that he didn’t even touch the ground. This goat, which had one very large horn between its eyes, 6 headed toward the two-horned ram that I had seen standing beside the river, rushing at him in a rage. 7 The goat charged furiously at the ram and struck him, breaking off both his horns. Now the ram was helpless, and the goat knocked him down and trampled him. No one could rescue the ram from the goat’s power.
8 The goat became very powerful. But at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off. In the large horn’s place grew four prominent horns pointing in the four directions of the earth. 9 Then from one of the prominent horns came a small horn whose power grew very great. It extended toward the south and the east and toward the glorious land of Israel. 10 Its power reached to the heavens, where it attacked the heavenly army, throwing some of the heavenly beings and some of the stars to the ground and trampling them. 11 It even challenged the Commander of heaven’s army by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to him and by destroying his Temple. 12 The army of heaven was restrained from responding to this rebellion. So the daily sacrifice was halted, and truth was overthrown. The horn succeeded in everything it did.[D] 13 Then I heard two holy ones talking to each other. One of them asked, “How long will the events of this vision last? How long will the rebellion that causes desecration stop the daily sacrifices? How long will the Temple and heaven’s army be trampled on?” 14 The other replied, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the Temple will be made right again.”
Everyone likes to get something for free! Due to the Drage family’s desire to move in the near future, we are cleaning out, de-cluttering and just generally trying to get rid of some stuff. In this case, BOOKS.
In the front office/classroom (1st door on your right after entering Discovery) There are a couple of boxes of books which are free for the taking. Feel free to browse through then and help yourself to whatever strikes you. All Christian material, some text books, some devotional, inspirational and so forth. ENJOY!
